The second half of my pictures from our weekend trip to Scotland!
This picture was taken to demonstrate how cold it was.
Before going to Edinburgh, we stopped in Stirling to see Stirling Castle. It's a spectacular hill-top castle with lots of history behind it, which you can read about here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stirling_Castle
The Great Hall.
I saw this and said, "Hey, I've seen that in textbooks!". (This is a recreation, however. The real one is in a museum.)
The Royal Chapel.
We arrived in Edinburgh in the late afternoon, so once we got all settled in and had dinner, it was nighttime. Accordingly, we took a "haunted" tour of the underground vaults of Edinburgh.
A creepy and intimidating staircase that we found.
The hostel we stayed in.
We had another early morning! We wanted to explore Edinburgh some more before we had to head to the airport. The streets of Edinburgh are pretty empty at 8am on a Sunday morning. The only people we really encountered before 10am were professional-looking photographers who were out to make good use of the excellent early morning light!
This is a church that had apparently been purchased and turned into a cafe. During our haunted nighttime tour, we also saw a church that had been converted into a nightclub, and was aptly named "Sin".
Edinburgh Castle, for which we were up too early to go inside. However, this gave us time to come across a hill with spectacular views of the city!
I was amused.
I wonder if the Filling Station in Orange knows about this?
Shannon and I were dubious as to the authenticity of this establishment.
The view of Edinburgh Castle from farther into the city.
I believe this was a monument to Sir Walter Scott.
This photo and the following photos were taken on the hill we found!
An unfinished replica of the Parthenon that is a memorial to the Scottish soldiers who died during the Napoleonic Wars.
HOW DOES THIS PLACE EXIST?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteOkay. I will try to say slightly more intelligent things.
Like... Kate, you look like a moldy marshmallow all wrapped up like that. In a good way.
There are windmills! Just like us! Except... There's less pollution and more sheep. And cooler accents.
Haunted Tour?! Awesome.
Okay, no, really:
There isn't much more I can say other than OHMYGOSHWOW. Sorry.
Please please please make Snapfish books of your trip when you come home. I'd totally buy one. =]
*Googles "Snapfish"*
ReplyDeleteYes! I will make a Snapfish book when I get back!
Also, I felt like a marshmallow!
Palm trees?? In Scotland????
ReplyDeleteAs for the rest, I am SO enjoying your photoblog, Kate! Thank you so much!
