An amazing sunrise in Derry, viewed from my bedroom window.
Our first stop was the grave of William Yeats, a very famous Irish poet.
Next was a famine memorial site, located on top of a mass grave of famine victims.
I thought these red plants were really nifty.
The sunset in Galway from our hostel window.
On Saturday, we spent the day exploring Inishmore (the largest of the three Aran Islands) by bike. It was quite an adventure; the bike ride was a little more intense than had been advertised. We did it, though!
These cows looked extremely content with life.
Our new best friend!
These stone walls were all over the island. Some were containing livestock, but others were just surrounding empty fields.
Shannon and Elaine taking in the scenery.
Helpful markings to show us the way.
These hills were not my friend, at least until we reached the top.
A good view of the island. You can see ocean on both sides!
The "town" on the island.
The view on the ferry ride back to Galway.
On our way back to Derry, we stopped at the Ulster American Folk Park, which recreated life for Irish emigrants both in the Old World, and then in America. Interestingly, they had been hosting Halloween events in the park for several weeks, so there were many random Halloween decorations in the park, in addition to the re-creations.
There were live chickens!
This one was sassy.
Geese, too!
Maggie and Elaine blending in!
